MACY: I guess we were about three weeks into the shooting when I said, “Tell me a little bit about the case, the actual case,” and [the Coen brothers] said, “No, it’s just made up.” I said, “No, but I mean, you know, the story that it’s based on.” They said, “It’s not based on any story; it’s just made up.” I said, “Guys, it says at the beginning of the script, ‘based on a true story.’” They said, “Yeah, well it’s not.” I said, “You can’t do that!” They said, “Why not?”
